Vision Boards 101: The Best Decision-Making Guide For Your Business
Jan 19, 2026
How do you make decisions when your business is at a crossroads? Do you have a strategy?
Or is it just based on your feelings and circumstances at the time?
“One of the ways we approach our crossroads is by checking back at our vision boards to see if where we're at in this crossroads still aligns with what our vision was.” Jill Olish
Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, a vision board isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s a tool that can help you clarify your path, remember your why, and take aligned action.
Even if you have never made a vision board before, today is a great time to start the process.
Keep reading and get ready to discover the What, Why, How, Where, When, and Who of Vision-Boarding for your business.

1. WHAT Is A Vision Board?
“If you want something and you don't ever make it clear, you’ll waffle back and forth forever.” Kim White
A vision board is full of pictures that remind you of what you want. It’s what you want out of life and out of business.
It doesn’t necessarily include the steps on how to get there. So it’s not full of action plans, it’s full of dreams - your dreams.
It might sound like a high school project, like it wouldn't be anything more than pictures on paper, but it does activate things inside of you that will stop you from working against yourself when you’re trying to make a decision.
2. WHY Have A Vision Board?
As an entrepreneur, you make a ton of decisions every day.
And there are times you come to really difficult decisions - the crossroads moments - where one decision can have a major trajectory shift for your whole business, and even your life.
Imagine being able to pull out your vision board at that exact moment: your reminder of what you really want out of life and business.
Suddenly the decisions become much clearer. The vision board gives you clarity.
And when you pull it out, it will push you to think outside the box. That’s because you have your dreams staring back at you, and your brain will work really hard on making those pictures a reality.
That’s what makes a vision board so powerful. It makes those crossroad moments much easier to navigate because you have more clarity.
Clarity and evidence are two very important reasons to keep a vision board.
“Having a vision board is also a way to collect some of the evidence of your success. And if you keep the different versions of your vision board and look back to see where you accomplished things, got clearer and deeper into things you wanted, and how your vision has shifted, it’s really exciting.” Jill Olish

3. HOW Do You Make A Vision Board?
You can get started right after reading this blog.
You don't have to be with anybody to do a vision board. You can do it all by yourself.
You can grab your pile of old school magazines and newspaper clippings, glue sticks, and scissors, and get going with a hands-on crafty session.
But if you’re not into glue sticks and glitter everywhere, you can make a digital vision board using free tools.
You can even get them printed, and skip the big mess and cleaning up parts of the process.
“Doing it digitally has changed the game for me.” Jill Olish
4. WHERE Do You Put A Vision Board?
Your Vision Board needs to be visible. Don’t just stick it in your office drawer or in a file.
“Part of the power of a vision board is being able to see it more often than once in a whole year.” Kim White
That’s why it’s a good idea to print it out, even if you do make a digital vision board.
“It took a few people telling me that they print them out before I started printing mine out. But I could see the difference in just being able to glance over and be reminded of what my end goal is.” Jill Olish
Having your vision board a glance away will help you in those regular entrepreneurial moments where you’re wondering…
Why am I even doing this? Why am I trying to build a business? Why am I doing all these hard things, and making these hard decisions?
And your vision board will be right there telling you: It’s because of these things, this is the life you want to live, and doing what you’re doing is going to get you there.

5. WHO Can Benefit From Having A Vision Board?
Vision boards are an invaluable tool for entrepreneurs.
But you don’t have to be an entrepreneur to have a vision board. And you definitely don’t need to be an entrepreneur to come to the Vision Board Party.
“We would do vision boards individually, and then we came together and did them collectively because it's more fun to do things when you're doing them together.” Kim White
Everyone brings a different and beautiful facet to the party, and there is always something new to learn from each other.
You might be looking for a certain kind of picture, or a unique way of linking things digitally. Someone might show you their board, and it sparks ideas in your own brain.
Business is always better together.
6. WHEN Is The Right Time To Make A Vision Board?
If you’ve never made a vision board, then now is a great time to start.
The most useful tip about “when” to make a vision board is to block out time intentionally.
Otherwise, it will be one of those things that gets pushed to the bottom of the list and never seems urgent enough.
“That's part of the high value that the Vision Board Party has for me. I have a date and a time to come, and I am intentionally going to uplevel or change out or do something to my vision board.” Kim White
Whether you’re coming for the first time to create something from scratch, or you’re there to do some updates and upleveling, it’s a space that's set up and ready for you.
You can come into this space and spend this time block building the business you want, for the life you want, not what somebody else has told you to do with your life.

7. What’s Next On The Vision Board Journey?
Get going on your own vision board!
You are invited to the quarterly Vision Board Party!
“We do them quarterly because we want to refresh things. Things change so much as we're building businesses and living lives that we love. Refreshing them every quarter helps us stay on point with where we're heading.” Kim White
You are also invited to the Clubhouse audio app and the My Sexy Business House to talk more about vision boards and other topics that will be coming up.
The truth is, we all come to crossroads.
The difference is what we use to guide our next move. So if you're ready to turn possibility into progress, it might be time to build, or refresh, your vision.
