Fact: The entrepreneurial adventure is always better together.

Like most entrepreneurs, you probably have a story about how being part of a community has helped your business grow, or has helped you grow personally as an entrepreneur.

But community is not just about what you get.  It’s also an opportunity to be that support to your fellow entrepreneurs.

“If I see someone else’s confidence leaking, how can I help them to build it back up?” Jill Olish

How can you build their confidence by helping them to do something new without it being a face off?  How can you patiently teach people the right order?

Here are 3 steps you can take to becoming a confidence builder amongst the entrepreneurs in your business community.

Remember That They Are Human

“If you’re going to help someone, listen and keep your mouth shut first.” Kim White

You have to know the human. You have to know the situation. And you have to just listen, because if you go in hard and heavy and you just want to fix it for them, you might make them even more angry.

“Someone who is leaking confidence is actually “bitey.” They will bite you sometimes because they are embarrassed.” Kim White

It’s very embarrassing to be outed for not knowing something or to be outed when you don’t want to be. And that can end up causing even more confidence to leak - the opposite of what you wanted to do.

If you want to be a confidence builder, the first step is making sure they are even open to hearing you.

Remind Them Of Their Own Previous Success

When someone is losing confidence it’s an opportunity to be a cheerleader. To remind them of the success they have already had in their business and life.

“If you have evidence, it helps your confidence.” Kim White

As an entrepreneur, you have to make sure you are keeping things that encourage you. But there are times when you’re leaking confidence so badly you can’t think straight.

You can be a confidence builder for others in those times by turning them to their evidence file of accomplishments to build their confidence back up again.

Try Going First

Have you ever tried to get a toddler to put a coat on? The reaction is hardly ever cooperative and it can easily build up into a face-off.

“I do it myself!” is the usual response.

Sometimes you’re looking at another human and they are full grown but they still have that “I do it myself” outlook on the inside.

“Option 1 I ask my son to teach me how he’s trying to do it. That reverses the leaky confidence because he wants to show it off. Or option 2 I show him how I would do it if I were him. Then there’s the excitement of: let me try it now!” Jill Olish

Can you support them without shoving the coat on them like a frustrated parent with their toddler? That’s the way to be a confidence builder in your community.

“When you can support, encourage, and be patient, that’s business and that’s life.” Kim White

If you have clients, customers, students, master-minders, a team, or any other kind of people you work with, look around and see how you can be a confidence builder with them.

By remembering that they are human, by being a cheerleader for their success and by going first, you can build confidence in others and in your whole entrepreneurial community in a big way.
