Are You a Hardaholic Entrepreneur?
Jul 06, 2026
If you’re an entrepreneur or business owner, chances are you’re no stranger to hard work. Late nights, long to‑do lists, and a calendar that never seems to have space are often worn like badges of honor.
But there’s a line between being dedicated to your business and being addicted to working hard.
I call that addiction being a Hardaholic.
What is a Hardaholic?
A Hardaholic is someone who is addicted to working hard.
They’re constantly pushing themselves, overloading their schedule, and taking pride in being the person who can “handle it all.” On the outside, it looks like hustle, ambition, and drive.
On the inside, it comes at a cost:
-
Rest
-
Wellbeing
-
Creativity
-
Genuine enjoyment of the business they’ve built
Hardaholics rely on busyness and effort to feel worthy or successful, even when it leads straight to stress, burnout, and disconnection from what actually matters.
So let me ask you:
Does this sound like someone YOU know?
Or… does this sound a little like you?
5 Signs You Might Be a Hardaholic in Your Business
Here are a few common ways Hardaholic habits show up for entrepreneurs and business owners.
1. You feel guilty when you’re not “doing” something for your business
Rest feels unproductive. Time off feels dangerous.
You only feel valuable when you’re grinding, checking off tasks, or “earning” your place at the table.
If you sit still, your brain instantly starts scanning for the next thing to do.
2. Your calendar is packed, but your business doesn’t feel sexier… just heavier
You’re on calls, in meetings, answering messages, and responding to every notification.
But when you step back and look at it honestly, your joy and profit don’t match your effort. You’re busy all day, yet somehow the business still doesn’t feel like the one you imagined building.
3. You choose the hardest way instead of the simplest, most profitable way
If a strategy feels easy, you question whether it “really counts.”
You might:
-
Overcomplicate launches
-
Add extra steps to offers
-
Say yes to things you don’t need to do
Deep down, you’ve linked struggle with success. If it’s not hard, it doesn’t feel worthy.
4. You wear overwhelm like a badge of honor
“I’m so busy” has become your default response when people ask how you’re doing.
A part of you is exhausted by it.
Another part of you feels important because of it.
Being overwhelmed has become a status symbol instead of a warning sign.
5. Your health, relationships, and fun get the leftovers
You keep telling yourself you’ll slow down:
-
After this launch
-
After this project
-
After this quarter
But there’s always a “next thing.”
Your body, your relationships, and anything that feels like pure fun get whatever energy is left… which often isn’t much.
The Real Problem Isn’t Hard Work
Let’s be clear: working hard is not the enemy.
Most great businesses are built by people who care deeply and show up fully.
The problem is when your hard work starts to own you.
-
When you don’t know who you are without your to‑do list
-
When exhaustion becomes your normal state
-
When you need overwork to feel like a “real” entrepreneur
You are not more legitimate because you are more exhausted.
You are not more successful because your calendar is more crowded.
A truly sexy business is one that:
-
Works
-
Creates impact
-
Supports a life you actually enjoy
…without requiring you to sacrifice your body, your relationships, or your sanity.
A Simple Challenge to Start Breaking the Hardaholic Pattern
You don’t have to burn everything down to change this. Start small.
Here’s your challenge:
Choose ONE thing in your business that you’re doing just to feel “hardworking” and either:
-
Cancel it
-
Delegate it
-
Or radically simplify it
Then pay attention to what comes up:
-
Guilt
-
Anxiety
-
Relief
That voice you hear? That’s the Hardaholic in you.
Notice it. Name it. And remind yourself:
You’re allowed to build a business that feels lighter, smarter, and more sustainable.
You are allowed to have a business that feels sexy, not just heavy.
If this resonated with you, you’re not alone. So many entrepreneurs have been conditioned to believe that hard has to equal worthy. It doesn’t.
This is your invitation to start building a business that works beautifully… without working you into the ground.
