Thank you for being here in the studio with me, Kim. Thank you, Dillo. I'm always proud of you for hosting this confession laden podcast. It's a fun podcast to be a part of. I enjoy it quite a bit. Well, we have arrived at our season three reflection for Buckets and Boom Gates. It is a very exciting episode today and we are going to be looking back at what's changed in our business, our own businesses, and giving you a simple way to keep using these ideas every quarter. Kimmy went over some pretty heavy topics in this season, just full of things and, you know, making us really think hard about what is happening in our businesses. Um, And a note for you listening, the things we covered are what we've been saying all along in all the places we go, just in a new and clear way, in my opinion. And I know that I've learned a great new view of being CEO of my business. Kim, what has changed for you over this course of this season? I have to giggle and say it's the thing that I preach all the time. that is the simple simple simple simple i think looking at you know the business again even quarterly we look at it to see how we can make it simpler and how we can do a better job to serve everyone i think that that is my takeaway from this season again is it's another round of simplification It's another round of clarity. It's another round of if we're hitting the mark and we would love you sweet listener to, you know, weigh in. If you, want to give us feedback. We want to do a good job. That's the one thing I will say. We are not all node up and think we are doing the perfect job. We want to know what you want more of. So be sure and weigh in on that. But I do think that reflecting back over this season, it is the practicing what we preach. It's the making sure we're staying simple and clear. It's making sure our boundaries are right and our rhythms are, you know, the right rhythms for this season and getting the rest we need. I mean, these are just all like random things unless you've listened to the season, but These are things that matter. We want better relationships. So we're working towards those things. We're making sure we're putting those as priorities. And there's fewer panic moments. Again, there's fewer panic moments because we are not going to come to a crisis without at least a partial plan, at least something in the works because we have been implementing things. So it's amazing to see just how far we have come in all the years you know it to me it's a sexy example that's what i'll say yeah i think throwing in the mix of having a baby has really honed in a lot of the principles that we've gone over this season and especially for me the rhythms because um Routines are a big thing when dealing with newborns. And so just practicing, not just having a routine for my family and a family time, but actually using that, that mindset of a rhythm and repeatable habits that I can do within the business that make it less panicky of like procrastinating and then showing up and having to hustle. That's been a huge impact in me for this, this season. and going forward. So this is what it looks like to build a business that supports your life is having those things that we don't make that we want to procrastinate about because they're too heavy or complicated. Changing that to easy and can't wait to get started is a huge shift. That is a huge shift. I love it. Yeah, well, this is your first episode. I'm sorry you missed a whole bunch of other great episodes. But we are recapping some principles that we discussed from episodes one hundred and six to one hundred and nineteen. So after this one, go ahead and go listen back. Otherwise, this gives you a recap and you don't have to go back. But one thing that we talked about was the sexy life lens. Kim, can you give us a little overview again of what this lens is for us? Sir can. So a lens is just a way to look at something. And it is the things that we ask questions. So the questions that we use is, does this decision support my life in the areas that I needed to support it? So the business, you know, if I'm going to make a business decision, I'm going to see how it affects my life. Does it actually support my life? Does this, whatever we're offering, whatever we're selling, whatever we're inviting you to, does that honor my boundaries? Am I still keeping my boundaries that I need to so that I get enough rest? I keep my relationships thriving. I do the things I need to in life, not just in business. And does this rhythm that I've created actually work in a bad week? Not just a good week, but a bad week. So if I am doing something as the minimal viable business because I have a crisis going on, it's a great time to ask before you get in that crisis, does this rhythm work? Does me doing this and showing up here and doing that, does that actually work? Is that the right rhythm? So I can tell you I have said no to something that I really struggled with. I'll just say this. I had a client need something that was beyond what my boundaries could allow. And I actually did say no and help them find, you know, a way to do it without me being involved. And I think that is something that They may not have appreciated in the moment, but I think they appreciate now because I did not have the time to be able to do a good job of what they were asking. And I think that's really important when you're honest with someone It pays off in such great ways because our relationship is great. Because I said no, which sounds like that shouldn't be. And simplifying things. I will tell you there's a few things I have actually taken off the project plate. We have a list of projects we work on like over time. I've taken several of those just off because that made it simpler. We don't have to think about them for right now. This is not the season to finish them. And I think that feels really good. Yeah. Well, at the end of each of these past episodes, we have been sharing some quick wins to start implementing some of the practices we've talked about and do ourselves. So a lot of them have been having to do with regularly checking in with our businesses and ourselves. Kim, I think I want to go over kind of what those are. Can you review some of these check-ins with us that we've been going over? I think when you set up a quarterly check-in, you can template that in a way. You can ask the same questions, and then you can just repeat those questions, basically. So pause, that's the first thing, and write this out. So I'm going to say that's one of the things that I want you to really do for your sexy homework. And I know we'll come to sexy homework topics, but... I think a quarterly check-in is just priceless when you're running your business. For us, you know, Buckets and Boom Gates, we talk about in here the confessions and we talk about the things, but we also have analyzed whether we're doing the right things. So are our priorities still the same? Are the... boundaries or boom gates still being honored or are we ignoring them and what needs to change? I think that that is a very important part of it to ask yourself because we can be the most dishonest with ourselves. We can write something on our calendar that makes us feel good, but we don't actually show up for it. It's actually fluff and there's nothing to it. So that is telling ourselves a lie. um which offers going through the list of which offers feel sexy are they energizing and sustainable and you're excited about them or are they heavy and misaligned you know are you offering something that actually doesn't really go with your business are you offering something that it is a chore it is literally a chore to get up in the morning when you know you have to do that um What's one thing you can change about it? Maybe don't throw it all out, but what can you change about that pain point? When you're talking money, have you kept your weekly money date? Have you actually done that? Do your current rhythms feel calm enough? You know, money can make you panic when you don't have enough of it. So money is tied into our peace a lot of times. If we're not doing those money dates, we start having panic moments in other areas. And a rhythm can help with that. The money date is part of your rhythm. Where am I still reacting instead of leading? Where am I waiting for crisis to happen instead of handling something ahead of time? Where did I honor my boundaries? I think that's a great question to ask because it starts helping you practice more of that. Where did I break them? I think that's something you have to become aware of. If I said I wasn't going to do something and then I did it, that is breaking my word. So that's breaking a boundary, but it's also telling a lie to myself. Who are my best fit clients this quarter and why? Who are they? Why are they the ones? How have I shifted? How has my business shifted? So I'm going to say, if you will take the time to do your weekly check-ins and you'll do a quarterly check-in with all those questions, you're going to find yourself in a much more thriving business with more peace and a much more successful place. I think they're important. I'm listening to a podcast episode, especially one that may help you in your business and life can be a big investment. So we don't want to just talk your ear off. We do want you to walk away with a win and nothing crazy. You know, we want it to be doable. Kim, you've already given us a beautiful template now for checking in quarterly with our business and what else can our listeners walk away with today your sexy homework is schedule i'm gonna keep talking about planning and keep talking about that scheduling calendar put it on your calendar when can you take an hour just an hour a quarter and put it on your calendar and use the questions above and answer them be honest in your answers take the time to do it but where can you put it on there if today is not the day how soon can you get it on there so sexy homework equals one thing get a quarterly question template scheduled on your calendar and our whole purpose of having this podcast and these episodes out for you to listen to is because really Kim, you've been there, you've bumped your head and you don't want others to have to bump their head as hard. And we truly believe that your business should support your life, not consume it. That was the whole definition behind sexy business. And that's why we have My Sexy Business. And Kim, you say when you're talking about My Sexy Business, it's us saying it. So we're talking about our own business, which I love that play on the name. And not us as in Jill and I, but us as in you, the listener and us. That's an important distinction, Jill. And thank you for bringing it up because I want everyone that we can help really feel that and know that their business is sexy. And that is why it was named that. So thank you for bringing that up.
